Theo Walcott registered the first hat-trick of his club career as Arsenal brought Blackpool back down to earth with a resounding win at the Emirates.

Newly-promoted Blackpool, who won 4-0 at Wigan on the opening day, started well but Walcott slotted Arsenal ahead.

Ian Evatt was sent off for a foul that appeared to be outside the area, Andrey Arshavin scoring the penalty, before Walcott drilled a third on 39 minutes.

Wigan 0 - 6 Chelsea

Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kalou both scored twice as Chelsea thrashed Wigan.

Florent Malouda gave Chelsea the lead when he tapped in after Frank Lampard's deft flick was saved by Chris Kirkland.

Anelka added a second shortly after the break when he fired in from inside the area and then nodded in his second before Kalou slotted in his first goal.

Didier Drogba then crossed for Kalou to head in his second and Yossi Benayoun rounded off the scoring as Wigan conceded their 10th goal in two games.

Man City 3 - 0 Liverpool

Roger Federer wins Cincinnati Masters

Roger Federer overcame Mardy Fish 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 in the final of the Cincinnati Masters to win his first title since January's Australian Open.

In a serve-dominated battle, the Swiss secured the only break of the match to lead 5-4 in the deciding set before serving out for his 63rd career title.

The win sees Federer match Bjorn Borg for fifth on the all-time title list.

His return to form also bodes well for his bid to win a 17th Grand Slam at the US Open, which begins on 30 August.

"I struggled at first here, I didn't like the heat but it has been an amazing run for me here," said Federer.

British clubs await Thursday's Champions League draw

Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Rangers will find out their Champions League group opponents in Thursday's draw at about 1700 BST.

Chelsea, United and the Gunners are in pot one, with Spurs - who beat Young Boys 6-3 on aggregate to qualify on Wednesday - and Rangers in pot three.

Holders Inter Milan are also in Pot One along with Bayern Munich and Barcelona, while Real Madrid are in pot two.
