Interview: Gomez
Larry: Interview
Eliz: Mr. Gomez, why was training such a concern?
Gomez: Well, with high-tech equipment, training is always a major worry.
Uh, robots have to be operated properly or they’ll break down.
If that happens, repairs will delay production.
Any delay in production is very expensive.
Eliz: So that’s why you asked about technical advisors?
Gomez: Yes, I wanted to make sure that someone would be available to train our workers.
Eliz: Mr. Gomez, thank you for talking to me today.
Gomez: I enjoyed it.
Eliz: Let’s take a short break.

Vietnamese Explanation
Trong đoạn trước có câu, ‘Robots have to be operated properly or they’ll break down’.=Người máy tự động phải được điều hành chính xác nếu không thì sẽ bị hư. Nhận xét: Thường thì chữ ‘or’ nghĩa là ‘hay là’, nhưng chữ ‘or’ nếu là liên từ conjunction nối hai mệnh đề thì có nghĩa là ‘nếu không thì’ ‘if not’. Hurry up or you’ll be late! Nhanh lên nếu không thì trễ! Robots have to be operated properly or they will break down.=người máy rô-bô phải được điều hành chính xác, nếu không thì hư. Be careful or you’ll cut yourself.=cẩn thận kẻo đứt tay.

Break down=(v.) hư (máy), thất bại (cuộc thương lượng). [to break down viết làm hai chữ rời nhau, to break/broke/broken.] The car broke down, and needed to be repaired=xe hơi bị hư máy cần phải sửa. The negotiation broke down because both sides could not reach an agreement.=cuộc thương lượng bị thất bại vì hai bên không đạt đến một sự thoả thuận. The two sides keep making suggestions until you both agree.=cả hai bên tiếp tục đưa ra đề nghị cho đến khi cả hai đồng ý. Keep + verb-ing=tiếp tục làm gì. Keep talking=cứ tiếp tục nói đi.
