 Vietnamese Explanation

How can we begin a good business relationship? First you need to make your visitors feel comfortable=trước hết bạn phải làm cho thân chủ cảm thấy thoải mái. Serious=nghiêm trang, quan trọng, nghiêm trọng. Don’t talk about serious business at first. =Thoạt tiên đừng bàn về chuyện quan trọng. Introduce everyone.=Hãy giới thiệu mọi người. Offer them some light refreshments.=mời họ uống đồ giải khát nhẹ.

Nếu  khách lần đầu tới New York, bạn có thể hỏi những câu như: How long was your trip to New York? Ông đi  mất  bao  lâu? Is this the first time you’ve been to our city? How do you like New York?  Ông có thích thành phố  New York không? How do you  find  the city traffic? Ông thấy xe cộ ở New York thế nào? Have you been to New York before?  Ông đã tới New York lần nào chưa? To break the ice.=làm không khí bớt lạnh nhạt.  Cold, icy=lạnh nhạt.  Try to create a warm relationship by making your visitors feel comfortable=tạo liên hệ thân mật bằng cách làm cho khách cảm thấy thoải mái.

An ice breaker=(1) tàu phá băng, (2) câu chuyện hỏi thăm, hay đồ giải khát làm bớt không khí dè dặt ban đầu. Nghĩa thứ 2 là nghĩa  trong bài. And everyone should sit down together and get to know each other=mọi người nên cùng ngồi xuống với nhau và làm quen với nhau.

 CUT 4

Culture Tips: Beginning a Business Relationship

 Larry: Culture Tips

This Culture Tip answers the question: “How can we begin a good business relationship?”

• “breaking the ice” làm cho thoải mái, bớt vẻ e dè  ban đầu

Eliz:  Welcome once again to “Culture Tips” with Gary Engleton.

Today, our e mail question is “We have some important American visitors coming to our office.”

“How can we begin a good business relationship?”

Gary: Well, first, you need to make your visitors feel comfortable.

Eliz: What’s the best way to do that?

Gary: Well, for example, don’t talk about serious business at first.

Welcome them and introduce everyone in the group.

You should then offer them some light refreshments.

Eliz: Light?  Like coffee or a soft drink?

Gary: Yes.  And everyone should sit down together to get to know each other.

And at the beginning, “small talk” is very important.

You might ask them how their trip was.

Or you could say, “Is this the first time you’ve been in our city?”

Eliz: This is sometimes called “breaking the ice.”

Gary: Definitely.  When you first meet someone, the relationship can feel cold or “icy.”

You try to create a warm relationship by making your visitors feel comfortable.

Eliz: I understand.  Well, thanks for your information, Gary.
